Palin the Likable

The funny thing about reading Sarah Palin's biography, is that you can't help but like her. She's cute, sassy, has an interesting biography, and by all accounts, she's been a pretty good governor for the State of Alaska. Even if I disagree with her on some fundamental choices, no one can begrudge her record of reform in Alaska. To be honest, I think it would have been interesting to see her replace the immensely corrupt Senator Ted Stevens when he goes down in flames, and arrive on a national ticket in a few years when she's better prepared. Hell, even her obvious ethics breach makes her likable. Who among us would not use our governing powers to get a jackass brother-in-law fired from the state police? Maybe you have to have had a corrupt cop as a former brother-in-law to understand that, but seriously, I think the more people learn about this ethics investigation, the more people will look past her abuse of power and say, "Well, the guy did have it coming."

And finally (perhaps most disturbingly), Sarah Palin has the Bush-factor going for her. She's plain-spoken and gun-totin'. Of the four of them (Obama, Biden, McCain, and Palin), it isn't difficult to figure out which most Americans would rather share a beer with.

I still think McCain's pick is a cheap and irresponsible political ploy and an insult to real deserving women (like Kay Bailey Hutchinson, a true Hillary equal), but it may pay off. Obama/Biden will have to adjust for this new variable.

  1. If her RNC McCain-written speech serves as any indication, Governor Palin is going to be completely floored by Senator Biden during the debates. She won't be able to bring her gun into the debate arena.

  2. Almost every political figure has speach writers, including Obama. Since Biden's claim of being a grad "at the top of his class" (73rd out of 76), Sarah may have a tough time at the debate because she doesnt lie to support an argument.

amend the constitution...free speach for those who research the facts.

  3. Great post! It's certainly an insult to not only highly qualified female political reformers, intellectuals, and senators, but yeah it's kind of a slap in the face to female voters - as if to say "hey, look over here we gotta woman running for the RNC ticket - that's cool huh, right? High five ova here!" Um, no.

BTW, I just created a Facebook group, "Campaign '08 Political Satire" and used the image from your blog. Hope it's okay (if not, just let me know and I'll remove it, no prob).

  4. Are you kidding me? This woman is a joke! No control over her own household and she is going to attempt running a country? Yeah, right!

  5. Palin is extremely likable, and of course this will work in her and the RNC's favor.

She is well-spoken - but appears to be a little less confident with answering questions. She may have trouble in a debate.

I really want her to do well. However, she might just get eaten a live during the forthcoming debate.

  6. I'd rather share a beer with Biden. Definitely.
And I cannot wait to see the Palin/Biden debate. It's going to be absolutely hiarious. Too bad anyone who supports her won't get it anyway.
