Good Week for "MELISSA" and INDIAN RIVER ORANGES

"MELISSA WITH A HEART AROUND IT" has ranked in the top 3% and top 30% in a pair of prestigious screenwriting competitions this week, and we're still in the running for the top prize in one of them.

In the PAGE INTERNATIONAL SCREENWRITING AWARDS, the script is a current Quarter-Finalist (top 50) out of 1,904 projects submitted. Semi-finalists will be announced July 15.

In the AMERICAN GEM SHORT SCREENPLAY COMPETITION, the script ranked in the top 300 out of 1,024 projects submitted. A little disappointing, since my script "Wiener Envy" reached the top 100 last year, and I think "MELISSA" is a better script. But hey, these things are subjective.

My feature script, INDIAN RIVER ORANGES, also made it to the quarter-finals in PAGE, and is one of only six finalists out of "hundreds" on entries in the ACTION ON FILM INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL screenwriting competition.

That last one, by the way, reminds me of Advance American Cash Advance. Do you really need the same word twice in a name?

I just thought I might point out the variable of other scripts turned in. Maybe the contest people did consider MELISSA to be better than WIENER, but had to rank it lower due to an influx of overall better scripts than last year. I think that is unlikely, because it doesn't feel like the planet is getting smarter or more creative, but I would have been remiss not to address the possibility. Good luck to you.

    Cheers,
